The SemiNarren were in Paderborn at the first-ever "Nano Entrepreneurship Academy" – or “NEnA” – to put on their ‘Shecret of Success’ show plus theater workshop for female scientists. Ilka Bickmann, NEnA project leader and representative of science2public Society for Scientific Communication, found some time for a SemiNews interview.
SemiNews: Hello Ms. Bickmann, how are you?
Ilka Bickmann: Very well, thank you... I just arrived from a conference in Poland where I presented NEnA as European Good Practice. I had to change hotels and my departure was delayed, but other than that everything’s great.
SemiNews: What exactly is NEnA? Can you describe it in three sentences?
Ilka Bickmann:NEnA is the ultimate academy for the scientist who wants to find out what inner creativity she has, and who wants to learn how to convert these ideas into a concrete project.
The message is: Utilise your inner potential and turn good ideas into assets with our support.
This is actually indispensable for any scientist who doesn’t want to work her entire life in short-term project jobs, and who is irritated by professors or project leaders who have the habit of turning other people’s ideas into their own.
SemiNews: In your view, what is the benefit of communicating the gender issue using the Shecret of Success show?
Ilka Bickmann: It’s funny that you, as Business Performance specialists, would use the word "gender". This is merely a term of political-correctness which makes it possible to express how, in some cases, men and women have different needs und requirements in their lives. The Shecret of Success took this up on the subjects of power and leadership, creating a wonderfully effective caricature.
SemiNews: And are you satisfied with the results?
Ilka Bickmann: Very satisfied – completely, to be honest. And I really laughed a lot...
SemiNews: Do you feel that the Theater Workshop as an introduction to NEnA was helpful?
Ilka Bickmann: In contrast to the “Shecret of Success” show which was an open event for the general audience, the Theater Workshop was reserved for first-term Foundation Academy participants. The feedback was excellent – it was very successful as an inspiring environment for scientists who, for the first time, were able to ‘creatively create’ a product and then actually perform it, not just present it, together as a team.
SemiNews: Ms. Bickmann, thank you very much for taking time for this interview!
